Elon Musk continues to make inroads into Tesla. The company sent another round of layoff notices Sunday night.
The layoffs mean the company's employees will receive four consecutive weeks of layoff notice. Four employees told Business Insider that their managers notified them of additional cuts to their teams on Monday morning. Additionally, several Tesla employees reported on LinkedIn that they received layoff notices over the weekend.
“After watching our team gradually slim down week after week since mid-April, I received the dreaded 'Hello Employee' email this Sunday afternoon,” one Tesla employee wrote on LinkedIn.
Another employee shared a screenshot of a termination email on LinkedIn that indicated his last day of work would be May 5th.
A Tesla spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment ahead of publication.
Employees at the automaker previously told Business Insider that they are worried about the wave of layoffs, and many are looking for opportunities outside the company.
“We're still waiting for Mr. Elon to send another email and let us know that he's finally laid off his employees,” said one current Tesla employee, who requested anonymity to discuss the terms of his employment. “We need some level of closure, or a sign that people will stop worrying about losing their jobs.”
Employees have been receiving waves of layoffs since Elon Musk first announced on April 14 that Tesla would cut more than 10% of its workforce. At the time, Musk said the job cuts were due to “duplication of roles and duties in certain areas,” according to a screenshot of an April email seen by BI. Within hours of the memo, the company began notifying affected employees of the layoffs. But some employees didn't know their roles there were gone until they tried to join the Tesla facility.
In the weeks that followed, Tesla's layoffs affected a variety of teams, from recruiters and marketing teams to Tesla's Supercharger team. BI first reported that some of Tesla's hiring managers have been laid off.
Musk reportedly told executives last week that the company needed to “get really tough on headcount.”
Mr. Musk's Tesla executives have also been reduced.
At least six executives have left the company in the past month.
On the same day Tesla announced its first cuts. Two executives resigned From the company. Drew Baglino, senior vice president of powertrain and electrical engineering, and Rohan Patel, vice president of public policy and business development, have left Tesla, effective Sunday, they told X. At the time, Patel told TechCrunch that he decided to leave due to major “overarching changes” at Tesla. The change will leave Musk with oversight of 35 direct reports, the Information reported.
Prior to the layoffs, Tesla employed more than 140,000 people worldwide. According to notices filed by Tesla under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, the company has already laid off thousands of workers at its locations in California and Texas.
The latest job cuts come at a challenging time for Tesla. demand is slow For electric cars. The company reported lower-than-expected vehicle deliveries in April.
