A hallmark of our work is our approach to these problems, which is to unlock progress through “policy entrepreneurship,” even in areas where viability has long eluded us.
While 'policy entrepreneurship' takes many forms, the FAS believes that many policy makers have the desire to drive change but lack the capacity, expertise and often talent. I think it starts with understanding that. The best policy proposals must go beyond the initial idea and address these challenges as well.
When it comes to expertise, FAS sources the best policy ideas from scientists and policy experts through its Day One publishing platform and helps these policy entrepreneurs refine their ideas and include actionable action plans. To do.
To further support the development of blossoming policy entrepreneurs, FAS created the Policy Entrepreneurship Fellowship (PEF) to help participants move policy memos from ideas to reality. During the six-month experience, hosted by FAS in partnership with the Aspen Institute, each PEF will serve as a part-time FAS affiliate to (i) help bring a particular idea to the attention of practitioners and decision makers; and (ii) work to identify and pursue them. Opportunities to influence fundamental policy areas of interest. PEF participants receive a $5,000 cash award, as well as ongoing mentorship from policy and technical experts in the FAS community, formal training opportunities on topics such as budget analysis and science communication, and access to FAS programming and facilities. , receive professional editing services and more.
The PEF program helps emerging engineers and scientists realize their potential to drive significant change at the federal level and continues to benefit the growing network of policy entrepreneurs surrounding FAS. Three members of PEF's initial cohort, monica sanders, Christopher Gillespie, Grace Wickersonand alexa white, their fellowship experiences have deepened their involvement in federal policymaking in different but equally impressive ways. In this series, we briefly introduce their works.
