Blue Owl Capital has announced several Europe-based hires within its institutional investing team as the $174 billion firm looks to expand its presence in the region.
Four new hires have been announced to provide support in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, with the aim of engaging with key clients and prospects across the region. The new hires join Blue Owl's existing European Institutional Business team, which includes London-based Principals Janine Phillips and Jennifer Singer. This follows Blue Owl's hiring of Michael Burns as Managing Director and Head of Institutional Business Development across EMEA in 2023.
“Michael has built a talented team covering a highly sophisticated and diverse European market,” said James Clark, global head of Blue Owl's Institutional business. “As Blue Owl continues to grow our global Institutional business, we approach each market with a focus on true partnerships. We've also ensured that our staff on the ground have deep knowledge and experience of each market's unique needs and nuances, and fully understand that a one-size-fits-all approach does not work. We look forward to seeing what the team can achieve in Europe over the long term.”
The four people employed were Antonis Magutas, Antonia O'Connor, Leo Houtekamer and Johan Stromberg.
Magutas, who joined in March, is based in Blue Owl's new Frankfurt office and focuses on business development across the company's platforms in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. He joins from Federated Hermes, where he led the business development team covering DACH, Scandinavia and Benelux.
O'Connor joined the firm this month from Magnetar Financial, where he was head of business development for EMEA. He joined as managing director and senior credit product specialist within the institutional business development team. Based in London, he will lead the team responsible for Blue Owl's private credit business across EMEA.
Goetekhammer began his role as consultant this month and will lead the firm's institutional business development efforts in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. He joins Blue Owl after more than 10 years at Intermediate Capital Group (ICG), where he was a Managing Director and focused on marketing and investor relations in the Benelux countries. Prior to ICG, Goetekhammer spent nearly five years at Putnam Investments in charge of European business development. Prior to Putnam, Goetekhammer was a Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns and an Executive Director at JP Morgan.
Stromberg joined Blue Owl in July to lead institutional business development in the Nordics from the London office. He most recently served as head of business development for the Nordics and the Netherlands at Arkmont Asset Management. Prior to joining Arkmont in October 2020, he was CEO of Bank of New York Investment Management's Swedish branch, where he was responsible for building the investment management business in the region since 2017.
