New Delhi, January 9: Seema Kumar took over the post of Member (Operations and Business Development) and Railway Board on May 1, 2024.
Prior to this, Seema Kumar served as Additional Member (Tourism and Catering) in the Railway Board. She also served as Additional Member (Traffic), Additional Member (Marketing and Business Development) and at various intervals she also served as Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC.
Seema Kumar joined the Indian Railway Transport Service (IRTS) in 1988. She is a gold medalist for her master's degree. She completed her MSc in Physics from Meerut University and her MSc from the Institute of Technology. She is a graduate of Delhi Institute of Technology.
Throughout her long career, Seema Kumar has worked in various positions including Principal Chief Safety Officer of Northern Railways. Railway Division Manager, Kota. Chief Project Manager of Northern Railway. Apart from this, she worked as a General Manager (PRS) at the Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).
During our tenure as Addl Member (Tourism and Catering), two new innovative plans were implemented. Successful launch of Bharat Gaurav Trains (BGT) and One Station One Product (OSOP).
While at CRIS, she played a leading role in the design and development of unreserved seat ticketing systems and next-generation electronic ticketing systems.
Seema Kumar has also completed the Leadership Program at the SDA Bocconi Institute, Milan, Italy, and the Leadership Management Executive Program at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
She received the Platinum Award in the Web-based Citizen Services category in 2009, the Silver Award in the e-Government category in the category “Innovative use of ICT by PSUs for the benefit of customers” in 2010-2011, and the National Award in 2014. It has won various prestigious awards, including tourism awards. Her 2015 showcasing cultural heritage and local talent.
